MyCareCompass

MyCareCompass  (developed by Excelleris Technologies) is a free service for patients and legal guardians that uses a secure internet site to provide access to patient’s health care information electronically. This functionality empowers patients to take an active role in their health care.

HIM Transcription Services allows care providers to copy their patient's transcribed reports, such as consultations, discharge summaries, operative notes and clinic notes, so that they can be sent directly to patients via MyCareCompass

MyCareCompass is available for patients to review their results from BC Children’s & Women’s Hospital, Sunny Hill Health Centre, BC Mental Health & Substance Use and BC Cancer.  Of note, for sites that have gone live with CST Cerner, patient results will be available via Health Gateway.

Health information reports such as discharge summaries, consults, operative reports and outpatient clinic notes are examples of the types of reports that may be available to you through your MyCareCompass account. Of these reports, only those that have been copied to you by your care provider will be available within your account. If you would like a copy, please ask your clinician to copy you on your report at your visit. You will then receive a Welcome Letter from Excelleris in the mail.

Registrants 16+ that register with a Welcome Letter from Excelleris will have access to lab work that is performed at the following MyCareCompass participating labs:

  • LifeLabs Laboratories
  • NovaVita Laboratories
  • Valley Medical Laboratories
  • Vancouver Coastal Health (outpatient only)
  • Providence Health Care (outpatient only)
  • Fraser Health (outpatient only)
  • BC Children & Women’s Hospital (outpatient only)
In order to register for MyCareCompass to access lab work, you will need:

  • Your British Columbia health card number / Personal Health Number (PHN) on the back of your driver’s license or BC Services Card
  • An active email address
  • Date of your recent lab visit (must be within the last 30 days)
  • Lab visit number (if it was provided during your visit)

No, only when you have been copied on a report by your care provider will you receive a Welcome Letter from Excelleris mailed to your home address with the information required to register.

Navigate to www.bc.mycarecompass.lifelabs.com using a desktop or laptop computer, click on 'Create an Account' and then follow the on-screen prompts to create your account.

If you have received a Welcome Letter, you must call MyCareCompass to complete your registration.

  • The patient will receive a Welcome Letter if a care provider from a health organization has copied the patient
  • The Parent/Guardian must create the new account on behalf of the patient by calling MyCareCompass with the Welcome Letter info.
    • If patient is over 13 and under 16, both the patient and Parent/Guardian will need to be available during the call in order to register the patient to an account—the patient to consent to being registered and the Parent/Guardian to consent to having another person registered to the account that would be in their name
  • Patient can receive transcribed results only
  • Patient cannot receive lab results until they are 16+ (lab results can be retrieved via patient’s ordering physician or contact the testing laboratory directly)
  • The patient will receive a Welcome Letter if a care provider from a health organization has copied the patient
  • The Parent/Guardian must create the new account on behalf of the patient by calling MyCareCompass with the Welcome Letter info
  • The patient must be registered to their Parent/Guardian’s account (Parent/Guardian will give consent on behalf of patient)
  • Patient can receive transcribed results only
  • Patient cannot receive lab results until they are 16+ (lab results can be retrieved via patient’s ordering physician or contact the testing laboratory directly)
  • An Account Renewal Letter will be sent to patients with existing accounts upon turning 13
  • Parent/Guardian will be removed from account
  • Because patients with existing accounts can elect to have their own account when turning 13, patient must call MyCareCompass to give direct consent
  • Patient has option of re-linking their registration to their Parent/Guardian’s account if they so prefer with the Parent/Guardian’s consent; in this case both the patient and Parent/Guardian would need to be available during the call as the Parent/Guardian must give their consent to be linked to the account again
  • Account will be marked to automatically start sending lab results when patient turns 16
  • Patients age 16+ can add another person (age 16+) to their account. Instructions are located at https://www.bc.mycarecompass.lifelabs.com under “How do I add another family member to my account?”
